Oct 10-13

Thank you to our families for coming to our first Parent Night! The evening explained "documentation" -- why we use it and what you may find in it. Documentation of some of our classroom projects is displayed around the classroom and atelier. If you have an extra minute at drop-off/pick-up, please read what we have been doing!

We also had the parents experience "story-acting." The children wrote a story, which the parents acted out. We followed the same procedures that we do with the children. The teacher reads the story, asking the person next to her to play the first character. The next child in the circle has the choice to play the next character in the story or pass. We continue around the circle until the story is finished. Our children will see their parents' dramatization of their story on Monday, as we video-recorded it!

We also had the parents write a story for the children to act out! As one parent said about the evening, "It was fun to be a kid again!" Thank you all for the wonderful gifts (the video and stories) that you left for your children! We know they will enjoy it!

For those who would like to help, we will be starting our "Trick or Treat Street" house-building on Tuesday, October 17, 2:30- 4:30 p.m.

(It's also Ms. Leigh's real BIRTHDAY, this Tuesday, Oct. 17!)

The week was filled with literacy! The Party Group delivered a letter to President and Mrs. Rice to see if they had an oven to use to bake a cake.

BH, CH, TK, RB, and EKS set up a restaurant where they made menus, took orders, prepared food, and served hungry classmates. DSC04238.jpg
The children wrote that creative story for their parents to act out at Parent Night.

KO brought us some "natural treasures" that she collected on a nature walk. The children drew and painted the kukui nuts, pods, and flowers. Their attention to detail is amazing!

The water-run group succeeded in running the water from our building to the sandbox water bucket. Wonder what they'll do next!

The last two groups traveled to the "Rainbow World." We had four different groups of children and four totally different experiences! Their creativity and imagination are so much fun! The story of their journeys will be available soon.

On Friday, Ms. Loriann read the story Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. She asked the children what they do when they have one of those days. GA said, "Go home and take a bath." CL said, "Watch tv all night, all morning, everyday." Ms. Loriann said she eats ice cream and watches a funny movie. (After CE, she joined us for recess, blowing bubbles for the children to catch. We love Ms. Loriann! ) The other children didn't comment -- I hope it means that they never have bad days! Oh, to be four years old again, when every day is filled with sunshine and smiles!

Have a great week!
